About Milt and Jamie Lee
I'm Jamie Lee and that handsome scruffy guy in the picture was my husband, Milt Lee. We were together for 30 plus years and every year presented a new adventure. We spent a good part of our lives in Rapid City, SD but in 2009 we had a chance to buy some old family land in Northern Minnesota. Our idea was to experiment with alternative construction--something we both had a keen interest in. The plan was to throw together a little straw bale cabin and come back each summer to enjoy it.
Well, it didn't go quite the way we thought it would.
In fact, we fell in love with our tiny bit of earth and our beautiful earthen home. A couple of years in we decided not to return to Rapid City, South Dakota but to stay here and continue to build on to what we started.
Sadly, my husband and creative partner passed away on Nov. 7, 2019 and my adventure continues--but on my own now.
Our house began with a pile of little wooden blocks that Milt made so he could create a model of the house. He spent a chilly winter playing with blocks. It was fun to put the model and the real thing together for our Christmas card one year. They are remarkably similar.
I'll be plunking in more pictures and videos as I go along here. I have a large archive of footage and it will take some time to sort through. To stay in touch just sign up for the newsletter. It will be sporadic but the best way to hear about new classes.
