Evelyn Alexander - Athabascan
Oyate Ta Olowan - Evelyn Alexander, Athabascan
Evelyn Alexander, an Athabascan Elder, who passed away in 2009. We met her in1999 when we went to see her in Minto Alaska. Minto is a very small village west of Fairbanks Alaska. There was snow all over when we arrived in October, and while we waited to get permission to record her songs, we helped make moose and bear sausage. Evelyn treated us to songs she remembered from over 80 yrs ago, when the first white people came up the river in a steamboat.
This download is a copy of the 30 minute radio documentary from the award winning series, Oyate Ta Olowan - the Songs of the People. It also includes all of the original songs that Evelyn Alexander sang.
There are 52 parts to this traditional Native American Musicseries, each featuring an individual tribe or nation.
